Accessibility goes to the beach! Los Angeles County has installed an access mat on Venice Beach so “people who have difficulty negotiating the sand can more fully and safely enjoy a glorious day at Venice Beach.” The mat stretches straight out across the sand until it makes a “T” shape facing the water. The nylon mesh mat can be left outside without risking damage during warmer weather, but will be taken in when the seasons change.
The new Venice Beach mat is one of seven in LA County. Additionally, LA County has made free wheelchairs available at several beaches. Together, the beach mats and wheelchairs help make the beaches of LA County more accessible for all citizens.
