When other people laugh at Jack Carroll’s disability, he does not become angry or embarrassed. In fact, he instigates the laughter. Jack, a fourteen-year-old school boy who has cerebral palsy, already knows what makes a comedy act successful. According to the young comedy genius, “in comedy your weaknesses are your strengths”. If you see his comedy act, you’d definitely agree…while laughing.
Jack just wants to inspire people by making them laugh. That’s why he decided to appear on Britain’s Got Talent where he impressed the judges and received a standing ovation from the audience. His open line of “Don’t worry, I know what you’re all thinking – Harry Potter’s had a nasty Quidditch accident!” got everyone rolling in the aisles. My favorite piece is when he describes how theater staff fussed over him and gave his family seats with a fantastic view, which prompted his sister to say, “Jack, we’re so lucky you’re disabled!”
Besides being a semi-finalist on Britain’s Got Talent, Jack also won Pride of Britain Award and Teenage of Courage Award. By making fun of his disability, he hopes to make the public more accepting of persons with disabilities.
